Miami-Dade shootout: 1 dead and 3 officers hospitalized after a clash with alleged squatter-wielding shotgun

Following a shooting incident at a home where there was a suspected squatter, three Miami-Dade police officers were taken to the hospital late on Wednesday night, according to officials.
The South District uniform patrol officers were called to 22291 SW 162nd Avenue in Miami at approximately 10:40 p.m., according to the Miami-Dade Police Department, where they found a man at the residence brandishing a shotgun.
The man, who was reportedly squatting in the house, opened fire on the officers as they got closer to the front door. The armed man was struck and killed by the officers’ return fire.
Detective Alvaro Zabaleta stated, “He shot at the officers, and there was an exchange of gunfire.” “A 35-year-old male officer sustained an upper extremity strike. The male officer, aged 57, who was the second one, sustained injuries to his face and upper limbs.
According to the department, other officers took the two injured officers to Ryder Trauma Centre Jackson South. A 40-year-old female officer, the third one, was admitted to the hospital for a medical assessment as well.
“Violence against my officers of this nature will not be accepted. “They are alive today by the grace of God,” stated Stephanie V. Daniels, director of Miami-Dade Police.
