Emmanuel Petit names the perfect manager to replace Mauricio Pochettino should he be sacked.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino came under severe pressure in his first season in charge following a series of inconsistent performances.
Mauricio Pochettino was appointed manager of Chelsea last year following the sacking of Graham Potter. He officially took charge of the West London club in the summer.
The Blues are currently 10th in the Premier League with 34 points, 12 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspurs. Chelsea could miss out on a Champions League finish for the second consecutive season if things do not improve.
Despite poor results in the Premier League, Chelsea is in the final of the Carabao Cup and will face Liverpool later in the month. Chelsea are also advanced to the next round of the FA Cup after beating Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park.
Former Premier League star Emmanuel Petit believes Xabi Alonso will be the perfect replacement for Mauricio Pochettino if Chelsea decides to sack him.
Xabi Alonso is being linked to Takeover as the new Liverpool manager following the news that Jurgen Klopp will leave the club this summer. He has also been linked to Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Alonso is leading Bayer Leverkusen to a historic Bundesliga campaign; they are already leading the league with five points above their favorite Bayern Munich.
Bayern Leverkusen is also favored to win the DFP Pokal and is currently unbeaten in all competitions.
Who is Emmanuel Petit’s ideal manager to replace Mauricio Pochettino?
He revealed via Betway: ” I think that Chelsea need a proper manager with a vision, just like what [Mikel] Arteta had for Arsenal.
“But they need to give him time to implement what he wants to do with the players.
“Mourinho is free, so he could be an option. But he’s not my preference, there are new managers who are doing great things.
“I’m thinking about Xabi Alonso for example, I’m very impressed with his work in Germany but there are many great managers that are available.
“Mourinho could be a choice, he’s been successful at the club but we all know that he comes with drama.
“I’m not sure that’s what Chelsea need. They need someone calm and need continuity at the club.”
Meanwhile, Reece James could make his Chelsea injury return against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley on 25th February.
The England international has made only 10 appearances for Chelsea this season and has spent most of his time nursing his hamstring injury.
