What Happened To Her And Her Boyfriend Aaron Quinn?
A horrific event occurred in March 2015 when armed intruders woke Denise Huskins and her husband, her then-boyfriend Aaron Quinn, in the middle of the night. Purposefully dressed in scuba suits, these intruders bound the couple with zip ties and kept them sequestered in a closet at Aaron’s home in Vallejo, California. The attackers took Denise off as a hostage to a distant place. Huskins’ predator drugged her and twice sexually assaulted her.
On March 25, two days later, she was finally freed near her mother’s Huntington Beach, California, home. Aaron told the Vallejo police about the terrible experience in the meantime. The police did not buy his story, even though he told them exactly how he saw the events. Instead, they considered him to be the main suspect in what they believed to be Denise’s homicide. The police publicly expressed their doubts about the couple’s story even after Denise was freed. The case received unwarranted attention as the kidnapping of the “Gone Girl,” with comparisons to the well-known novel and film in which a woman stages her own kidnapping. It took three months, and a lucky break before the couple saw some justice after going through such a depressing experience.
Evidence about Denise and Aaron’s circumstances was found by law enforcement in June 2015 while they were looking into a case involving a masked intruder in Alameda County, California, about 40 miles away. This evidence was discovered by “Matthew Muller,” a disbarred immigration lawyer and former Marine with a Harvard degree. In 2016, Matthew Muller pled guilty to one count of federal kidnapping, which carried a 40-year prison sentence.
Denise and Aaron filed a lawsuit, claiming defamation against the City of Vallejo. They were awarded a $2.5 million settlement in 2018. With former PEOPLE senior writer Nicole Weisensee Egan, the couple co-wrote “Victim F: From Crime Victims to Suspects to Survivors” in 2021.
